A TurboScribe alternative: unlimited in your browser, pay once for long files
TurboScribe is a solid transcriber built for volume. Skeleton Fingers takes a different approach: unlimited free transcription that runs on your own device, free fast transcription for short files, and fast hours you buy once for long ones.
What TurboScribe offers
As of September 2026, TurboScribe lists two plans on its pricing page:
| Plan detail | TurboScribe Free | TurboScribe Unlimited |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | $20 per month billed monthly, or $10 per month billed yearly ($120) |
| Files | 3 per day, one at a time | Unlimited for one person, up to 50 at a time |
| Length per file | Up to 30 minutes | Up to 10 hours or 5 GB |
| Queue | Lower priority | Highest priority |
Sources: turboscribe.ai/pricing and turboscribe.ai, as of September 2026. Their site also lists 98+ languages, speaker recognition and translation into 134+ languages.
If you transcribe many hours every month, a flat unlimited plan is hard to beat, and we would rather say so up front. The rest of this page is for people whose needs look different.
Where Skeleton Fingers is different
Free means unlimited
The free lane in Skeleton Fingers runs in your browser. It is unlimited, with no daily file count and no account to create. The tradeoff is speed: the Whisper speech model runs on your own computer, so how long a file takes depends on your device, and the first run downloads the model once. The browser lane also does not label speakers. Our free fast lane, by contrast, has the same limits as TurboScribe Free: files up to 30 minutes, 3 a day.
Your audio can stay on your computer
Because the browser lane transcribes on your device, your audio never leaves it. That matters for confidential interviews, internal meetings and personal recordings. When you use the fast lane instead, your recording is uploaded to our servers and stored with your account until you delete that transcript or your account.
Pay once, not every month
With a free account, the fast lane is free for files up to 30 minutes, 3 a day. For longer files, or more in a day, an hour pack costs $5 for 3 fast hours, paid once, and pack hours never expire. On the fast lane, your browser converts the file to audio, uploads that audio (about 115 MB per hour), and our servers transcribe it in seconds. The first two steps depend on your device and connection, so the total time varies. You get speaker labels and automatic language detection.
Some quick math: TurboScribe Unlimited's monthly price of $20 would buy four of our packs, which is 12 fast hours that stay in your account until you use them. If you reliably transcribe more than that every month, an unlimited plan, or our Pro plan at $9.99 a month for 10 fast hours, is the better fit.
Which one should you pick?
- Pick TurboScribe Unlimited if you transcribe dozens of hours a month, need translation, or upload big batches of files at once.
- Pick Skeleton Fingers if your volume goes up and down, you want free transcription without a daily limit, or you want the option of keeping audio on your own device.
Frequently asked questions
Does Skeleton Fingers use Whisper like TurboScribe?
The free in-browser lane runs the Whisper speech recognition model on your own device. The fast lane runs on our servers using Deepgram, which processes an hour of audio in seconds.
Is the free lane limited to a few files a day?
The in-your-browser lane is not. It is unlimited and needs no account, because the work happens on your computer rather than on our servers. The free fast lane is: files up to 30 minutes, 3 a day, the same as TurboScribe Free.
Do fast hours expire?
Pack hours never expire. The free allowance of 3 fast files a day resets daily, and Pro hours renew every month.
Do I need an account?
Not for the in-browser lane. The fast lane needs a free account so your minutes and transcripts stay together.
