When Rev is the right choice

• You need a person to check the transcript. Rev sells human transcription. Skeleton Fingers is AI only, on both lanes.
• You need legal formatting, such as deposition transcripts with page and line citations, or court-ready documents.
• Your organization needs formal compliance or team features, such as single sign-on and admin controls. We do not make compliance claims.

Where Skeleton Fingers is different

Free without a monthly minute cap

Rev Free gives you 45 AI minutes a month, in English. The in-your-browser lane in Skeleton Fingers has no minute cap, no file count and no account. It runs the Whisper speech model on your own computer and works with many languages. The tradeoffs are real: it is slower than our fast lane, its speed depends on your device, the first run downloads the model once, and it does not label speakers.

Your recording can stay on your device

On the browser lane the audio is never uploaded anywhere, including to us. For a personal recording or a sensitive interview, that can be simpler than reading a vendor's data policy. If you use the fast lane, the audio goes to our servers and is stored with your account until you delete it.

No seats, no subscription required

Rev's paid AI plans are priced per seat and billed every month or year. Our fast lane needs a free account and is free for files up to 30 minutes, 3 a day. Beyond that, an hour pack is $5 for 3 fast hours, paid once, and the hours never expire. Pro is $9.99 a month for 10 fast hours if you transcribe every week. On the fast lane, your browser converts the file to audio, uploads it (about 115 MB per hour), and our servers transcribe it in seconds, with speaker labels and automatic language detection. Upload time depends on your connection.

A note on cost

An hour of human transcription at Rev's starting rate is about $119. Three hours of AI transcription on a Skeleton Fingers pack is $5. That is not a like-for-like comparison: a human transcript has been checked by a person, and ours has not. The useful question is whether your recording needs that check. For notes, research interviews you will listen back to, lectures and drafts, AI is usually enough, as long as you check names and numbers against the audio.
