What the pricing means in practice
Otter meters minutes. Its pricing table says the monthly limits do not roll over, and imported files have their own caps. Pro's 1,200 minutes add up to 20 hours, but with 10 imports a month and 90 minutes per conversation, a stack of long recordings hits the file limits before it uses the minutes.
TurboScribe charges a flat price for unlimited transcription. That makes the cost predictable if your volume is high, and it means a slow month costs the same as a busy one.
Long recordings
Take a two hour interview. On Otter, it is longer than the per-conversation limit on Basic (30 minutes) and Pro (90 minutes); Business goes up to 4 hours. On TurboScribe, the free plan's 30 minute limit rules it out, and Unlimited accepts files up to 10 hours. For long files, TurboScribe's paid plan has more headroom.
A third option: Skeleton Fingers
If you want neither a meeting bot nor a monthly plan, Skeleton Fingers is a simpler way to get text out of files. It has two lanes:
- In your browser: free and unlimited, no account. The Whisper speech model runs on your device, so your audio never leaves it. Slower, depending on your computer, and without speaker labels.
- Fast: your browser converts and uploads the audio (about 115 MB per hour), then our servers transcribe it in seconds; total time varies with your device and connection. It adds speaker labels and automatic language detection. A free account includes fast transcription for files up to 30 minutes, 3 a day. For longer files or more in a day, $5 buys 3 fast hours that never expire, or Pro is $9.99 a month for 10 fast hours.
It does not join meetings and it does not translate. It is for people who have a recording and want the words.
Frequently asked questions
Is Otter or TurboScribe cheaper?
It depends on volume. As of September 2026, TurboScribe Unlimited is $20 a month billed monthly or $10 a month billed yearly, and Otter Pro is $16.99 per user per month billed monthly. For heavy file transcription, TurboScribe’s flat price usually works out cheaper; for a team that mainly needs meeting notes, Otter’s features may be worth more.
Which one handles longer files?
TurboScribe Unlimited accepts files up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Otter’s longest per-conversation limit is 4 hours, on its Business plan.
Which free plan is better?
Otter Basic includes 300 minutes a month but caps each conversation at 30 minutes and allows 3 file imports in total. TurboScribe Free allows 3 files a day of up to 30 minutes each. For recorded files, TurboScribe’s free plan goes further; for short live meetings, Otter’s does.
Do both identify speakers?
Yes. Both list speaker identification on their sites. In Skeleton Fingers, speaker labels come with the fast lane.
